OCD

OCD can make your own thoughts feel like they’re working against you. Bellevue Psychiatry offers compassionate psychiatric evaluations and medication management for children, teens, and adults across Washington State.

Understanding OCD
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a mental health condition marked by a cycle of unwanted, distressing thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviors or mental rituals (compulsions). People with OCD often know their thoughts don’t make sense, yet the anxiety feels impossible to ignore. OCD isn’t a personality quirk or a love of neatness. It’s a real, treatable condition, and no one has to face it alone.

Common symptoms of OCD
OCD has two main parts:

Obsessions
Obsessions are intrusive thoughts, images, or urges that cause intense anxiety or guilt. They often involve fears about germs, harming a loved one, or constant doubt, or a strong need for things to feel “just right.”

Compulsions
Compulsions are actions or mental rituals a person feels driven to repeat to ease that anxiety, such as excessive washing, checking, counting, or seeking reassurance. The relief is temporary, and the cycle starts over.

Everyone has unwanted thoughts or habits from time to time. Only a qualified provider can determine whether symptoms are OCD or something else.
